3 Things You Can Do Right Now to Start Saving

I have seen many articles out there where they claim to tell you how to save, but then I see the same advice over and over again, article after article, or blog post after blog post. The first one is look at your subscriptions and stop paying for those you aren’t using. Yes, that is good advice but if you get that same advice you’ve probably found that you’ve already canceled those you weren’t using, right?

I’m here to tell you about other things that you should be doing to make sure you are saving. And I mean putting money into your savings account so that when things come up in the future, you have the money to pay for unforeseen expenses.

This one is very easy, but no one ever seems to do it. If you do, you should give yourself a pat on the back. Go to your online banking account and set up an automatic transfer from your checking account to your savings account and just forget about it. If you can’t forget about it, open a savings account at another bank so you aren’t looking at it. Another option is having a percentage or a certain amount of your paycheck go to a savings account via direct deposit. You don’t need to start with much. Even $10.00 or $20.00 each paycheck is a start.

What if I need that money? Well, that’s what you have it there for, in case you need it. I mean, chances are you will need it at one point, but meanwhile it’s accumulating.

Do you buy coffee and donuts or pastries from places like Starbucks, Dunkin’, Circle K, 7-Eleven, Wawa, etc.? Stop overspending. You can still get your coffee in the morning, but try to skip the expensive stuff. As for the yummy stuff, why not use an app like “Too Good To Go app. This app connects you with Cafés, restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores that offer surplus food at much better prices and helps the environment by reducing food from going to waste. What’s available depends on the area where you live. An alternative to this particular app would be something like “FlashFood,” which is a little different since it connects you with grocery stores. Check them out and see what you think.

How about soda, energy drinks, or even chocolate or candy? Why not pick that up at the grocery store or places like Costco, Sam’s Club, BJ’s, etc.?Buying these by the case is often much cheaper, and you can always carry one of those freezer bags or even a small cooler to keep them nice and cold.

Ok, there you go. These small tips are just a way to get you started on your quest to save a little money here and there. Believe it or not, it all adds up.
